Peter Jan Margry is a historian and ethnologist. He studied history at the University of Amsterdam, and was awarded his PhD by the University of Tilburg (2000). He was director of the Department of Ethnology at the Meertens Institute (KNAW). As a senior research fellow at the institute, his current focus is on contemporary religious cultures, religious and alternative healing, cultural memory practices and cultural heritage. In 2013 he was appointed professor of European Ethnology at the University of Amsterdam. A list of publications can be found here.
